A local purveyor of beautified bras will be running an unconventional bar crawl and auction this Saturday in aid of a breast cancer organization.

Bras For A Cause’s “Boob Crawl” event will include games, auctions and a raffle, with funds going to the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation.

BFAC raises money by auctioning off bras playfully decorated by volunteers. Designs typically range from the tastefully sequined to flamboyantly feathered creations with butterfly decorations.

Other funds come from selling breast-shaped chocolates and from events such as the Boob Crawl, which BFAC organizer Abigail Flores says accounts for about half of the money raised in Korea.

The Boob Crawl will visit four bars in the Itaewon area, with a game at each playfully based around breasts ― from men’s and women’s races to unhook their own bras (worn over the shirt), and to smash it, in which teams must burst balloons using their torsos.

There will also be some ice-breakers at the first bar.

“When people have fun at the start of our crawl, it puts everyone in a great mood. Then we have positive energy flowing the rest of the night.

“In the past, people enjoyed our crawl so much that they helped us sell our chocolate boob pops and modeled bras,” said Flores, adding that they hadn’t met before that night.

“It was pretty awesome to have strangers help us fundraise for the KBCF.”

Ten decorated bras will be auctioned off throughout the crawl, with bids starting at 20,000 won. Also to be sold off are prints by expat photographer Corey Malcolm Lajeunesse.

“He is an amazing artist and has been painting (unconventional ‘bras’) on models and will donate prints,” said Flores.

A raffle will also be held with prizes such as bar tabs and so on.

While the games and the bra auctions are lighthearted, Flores says the volunteers who model the bras often have a serious reason for doing so.

“Many of the bra models are doing it because they have lost someone to breast cancer, or know someone with breast cancer or another form of cancer,” she said.

The crawl starts at 8 p.m. at the Bull and Barrel in Itaewon, and it costs 10,000 won to take part. A full bra auction will take place on Dec. 12, with details to be confirmed.
