Porsche Korea unveiled the newly upgraded 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S in Seoul on Thursday, with plans to launch other models based on the iconic Porsche 911 sports car in South Korea this year.

The two models are the first among Porsche’s redesigned 911 lineup to debut in Korea, according to Porsche Korea. New variations of the 911 will be released locally in the coming months, company officials said.

“The new 911 Carrera merges Porsche’s original sports car DNA with the firm’s latest auto technology and innovation,” said Kim Geun-tak, representative and managing director of Porsche Korea, at the launch ceremony.

The new vehicles are both equipped with twin turbo-charged engines, enabling enhanced acceleration, power and performance. The 911 Carrera delivers a maximum 370 horsepower, while the 911 Carrera S hits 420 horsepower, improved by 20 horsepower over the former corresponding models.

Thanks to the new turbo engines, the two vehicles also offer significantly increased torque -- the 911 Carrera delivers peak torque of 45.9 kilogram-meters and the 911 Carrera S goes up to 51.9 kilogram-meters at between 1,700 and 5,000 revolutions per minute.

“Both engines have improved their maximum torque by 6.1 kg-m, enabling a whole new level of performance,” said August Achleitner, vice president of the 911 product line at Porsche AG.

The 911 Carrera S, the superior model, can hit 100 meters in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 308 kilometers per hour, according to Porsche.

The two models are also equipped with the German luxury sports car brand’s communication management infotainment system as well as a multi-collision brake system for improved driving convenience and safety.

Porsche’s new 911 Carrera is locally priced at 133.3 million won ($107,400) and the 911 Carrera S at 150.1 million won, including taxes.
