LG Display said Monday it will unveil four new automotive display technologies at the upcoming CES 2024 slated for next week in Las Vegas, introducing innovations tailored for software-defined vehicles that heavily rely on multiple advanced displays for various functions.

These display solutions aim to improve the flexibility, visual quality, affordability, and safety of screens in software-defined vehicles.

Central to LG's showcase is the adaptation of P-OLED, or plastic OLED, technology to automotive needs. P-OLED stands out for its flexibility, allowing displays to bend and curve around the unique contours of a car's interior. This versatility enables seamless integration of screens into disparate parts of the vehicle beyond the traditional dashboard.

LG's Advanced Thin OLED displays for automobiles offer high-quality visuals of OLED -- sharper images and deeper blacks -- but at a more accessible price point. This affordability is key in making advanced display technologies available in a broader range of vehicles, not just high-end models.

Other than visuals, safety is another aspect that is especially important in SDVs that are equipped with multiple screens. LG will showcase a viewing angle control technology to prevent driver distraction, called Switchable Privacy Mode, which adjusts display viewing angles to render non-essential screens invisible to the driver.

There will also be a space-saving display tech for OLED screens in the backseat, which can slide out or fold up so that the passengers can use them when needed and tuck them away otherwise.

Besides OLEDs, the company will also present LTPS LCD tech, which enables larger sizes and higher resolutions in contrast to traditional LCDs.

LG Display will feature a dedicated booth in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, under the theme of “Optimal Solutions for Future Mobility” to showcase these technologies.
